Frequently asked questions

What does MIDTRANS ship from the UAE, and what does it not accept?
MIDTRANS moves commercial and industrial cargo: trade goods, machinery, spare parts, raw materials, equipment and project consignments travelling under commercial documents. Two private services are the exception: cars shipped by road to Syria, and household furniture moved to Syria as a full container or full truck. MIDTRANS does not handle loose personal effects, baggage, small parcels, courier or express consumer shipments. Every commercial consignment moves on a commercial invoice and packing list issued by a company shipper to a company consignee.
Does MIDTRANS clear customs in the UAE?
Yes. MIDTRANS clears customs itself in the United Arab Emirates and in Syria. The same team that books the freight prepares and files the customs declaration, presents the document set to the authority, follows inspection and settles duties and charges for the account of the importer. In Egypt, clearance is carried out by licensed Egyptian customs brokers that MIDTRANS appoints and supervises. Any HS code, duty and tax information should be confirmed against the official tariff before shipment.
How does cargo move from the UAE to Syria?
By sea, containers leave Jebel Ali for Latakia or Tartous on the Syrian coast, and MIDTRANS delivers inland to Damascus and other Syrian cities. By road, trucks load at Jebel Ali, cross Saudi Arabia, enter Jordan and reach Syria through Nasib, continuing to Lebanon or Turkey where needed, as full truck or part load under transit procedure. MIDTRANS books the transport leg and clears customs at both ends, with its own offices in Dubai, Jebel Ali and Damascus. The route is chosen per shipment according to cargo, cost, transit time, border conditions and carrier availability.
How does cargo move from the UAE to Egypt?
Cargo leaving the United Arab Emirates for Egypt moves by sea from Jebel Ali to Alexandria, Damietta, Port Said or Ain Sokhna, or by air into Cairo. MIDTRANS books the transport leg, clears export customs in the UAE, and follows import clearance in Egypt through licensed Egyptian customs brokers it appoints and supervises.
Which markets does the MIDTRANS UAE office cover?
The UAE office in Dubai and Jebel Ali works the corridors from the United Arab Emirates to Syria and Egypt as regular trade lanes, and moves commercial cargo to and from Saudi Arabia, the other GCC states, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Turkey, as well as cargo from China routed through Jebel Ali. MIDTRANS has its own offices and customs staff in the UAE and in Syria.
Does MIDTRANS store and consolidate cargo in Jebel Ali?
Yes. MIDTRANS stores and consolidates commercial cargo in the Jebel Ali area, receiving goods from several suppliers, checking marks and quantities against the packing lists and loading them into one container or truck for a single destination. Consolidation and cross stuffing let a buyer combine purchases from different UAE suppliers into one sea or land movement to Syria or Egypt under one set of documents.
What information is needed to quote a shipment?
A freight quotation needs the origin and destination addresses, the freight mode, the commodity description, the gross weight, the volume or dimensions of each package, the package count and packaging type, the container type for full container loads, the cargo readiness date and the Incoterm. Dangerous goods also need the UN classification. MIDTRANS prices the transport leg and the customs leg from that information.
Where is Midtrans Shipping & Services LLC based?
Midtrans Shipping & Services LLC is based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
