Notify Party
A party listed on the bill of lading to be informed when cargo arrives at destination. Often a broker, agent, or buyer representative; not necessarily the consignee.
In depth
The notify party receives arrival notices from the carrier or agent: often a customs broker, buying agent, or branch office. They are not automatically entitled to cargo unless also consignee or holding endorsed documents.
Key points
- Carrier contacts notify party for arrival and release instructions
- Can be same entity as consignee or separate
- Update notify details before shipment: amendments cost time
- Does not replace consignee for title unless authorised
