Reefer Container

A reefer is an insulated container with its own refrigeration machinery, drawing power from the vessel, the terminal, or a generator set while on the road. Standard units hold temperatures from deep frozen to chilled, and controlled-atmosphere variants also manage oxygen and carbon dioxide for produce. Reefers cost considerably more than dry boxes to book and to plug in, and they need a monitored power supply at every stage — an unplugged reefer sitting in a yard is a total loss risk. Temperature settings and any pre-cooling requirement must be stated at booking, not assumed.
