Pallet Sizes Around the World and How They Fit a Container

Frequently Asked Questions

How many pallets fit in a 20ft container?+

About 11 EUR pallets (1200 x 800mm) or about 10 of most other common sizes, including the North American 48 x 40, the Asian 1100 x 1100 and the Australian 1165 x 1165, in a single tier. A 40ft container holds roughly double, at 23 to 25 EUR pallets or 20 to 21 of the others.

Does a 40ft high cube hold more pallets than a 40ft standard?+

Not per tier. The floor dimensions are identical, so the number of pallet positions is the same. The high cube gives roughly 30cm more internal height, which is only useful if your cargo can be stacked a second tier or if the load is tall, and it adds about 8 cubic metres of capacity.

Is it better to floor load or palletise a container?+

Floor loading cartons typically fits 15 to 20 percent more product into a container because it eliminates the wasted space around pallet footprints and the pallet height itself. The trade is much slower loading and unloading, higher labour cost at both ends, and more handling damage risk on fragile goods.
