How it works

Below roughly 15 CBM, LCL is usually the more cost-effective route, since you would be paying for a lot of empty container space you don't need — the tool defaults to recommending LCL in that range. Above that threshold, it checks your volume against 20GP, 40GP, 40HC, and 45HC capacities in order, and recommends the smallest container where your cargo would fill it to 95% or less, leaving some margin for how real cargo actually stows.

If you enter a pallet count, the tool also flags when it exceeds what typically fits in a single-tier load — roughly 11 standard EUR pallets in a 20GP, and roughly 22 in a 40GP — and steers you toward a larger box even if the raw CBM figure alone would technically fit, since pallets don't stack as efficiently as loose cartons.

The capacities used here track internal nominal volumes rather than what you can realistically stow. A 20GP is nominally about 33.2 m³, a 40GP about 67.7 m³, a 40HC about 76.4 m³, and a 45HC about 86 m³ — but once you allow for pallet shape, stacking limits, and gaps between cartons, usable capacity is typically closer to 85% of that nominal figure.
